But the dining room is finally finished and we absolutely love it. It feels so much lighter and brighter than it did before.
When we bought the house, it looked like this:
At the end of May, the dining room looked like this:
We had painted the top half of the walls a light blue-gray and added putty (in two layers, with lots of messy sanding) to the bottom half.
Today, it looks like this:
Hans had a lot of fun measuring out the baseboards, top rail, and vertical slats. They were secured in place with painter's tape and attached first with LiquidNails and then secured with small nails. The whole thing is painted with Glidden's White On White.
After the main portion was done, an additional horizontal board was place on top of the main rail as a small shelf. A bit of decorative molding went underneath that, just to dress it up a little.
We also picked up this awesome rug on clearance at Target - $99 for a 5x8!! Love it. Not only does it have the same Moroccan theme as the living room rug, it's super cushy and soft. We love it.
We love the board and batten look, but it definitely took a while! Good thing we love it.
